Five European activity holidays for all the family

If your family is looking for a new adventure, then why not answer the call of the wild by heading off on an activity holiday this year?

Our intrepid team has tracked down some of the best activity holidays in Europe, paying close attention to activities that can be enjoyed by all the family.

From biking in the mountains to learning how to survive in the wilderness, we’ve found something to suit all ages.

Cycling, Austrian Tyrol

If the kids have mastered their bikes at home or little ones are quite happy to watch the world go by from a bicycle seat, then why not consider a cycling holiday in the beautiful Austrian Tyrol?

Featuring peaceful cycle paths and dramatic mountain landscape, the Tyrolean valleys offer a cycling adventure amidst some of the most memorable scenery in the world.

There are also magnificent gorges to cycle through and crystal clear lakes to cool off in during the summer months.

Camping and Canoeing, Sweden

Imagine paddling your way along a gently flowing river as forests, farmland and small villages pass you by.

The river Klarälven in Sweden is perfect for families as it is easy to navigate, offers a smooth ride and has lots to see along the way.

Children will love looking out for busy beavers along the river banks, and there are plenty of wonderful camping spots to be found on the outskirts of the forest.

An adventure for sure, but a very peaceful one.

Bushcraft Camp, Wales

If you are yearning to get back to nature but are worried you lack the practical skills, this Bushcraft Camp is a great place for all the family to learn the ways of living in nature.

Situated on the Gower peninsula in Wales, the Family Bushcraft Camp offers a wide range of activities including shelter building, woodland walks, tracking, willow craft and fire lighting.

You’ll also learn how to forage in the wild for food and cook your finds on the campfire.

Back to Basics, Slovenia

If a highrise hotel in the Costa del Sol isn’t really your idea of fun, why not get back to basics in the heart of Slovenia’s countryside?

You can stay in a glass mobile home that offers panoramic views across picturesque valleys and lakes and take part in a range of different activities.

From hiking in the woods to visiting a glacial lake, Slovenia offers things to do that all the family will enjoy.

Sea Swimming, Turkey

This is possibly one for older children - they have to be 11 or older to take part in the sea activities - but younger children can take part in the SwimTrek club activities on dry land.

This activity is set in the bay of Marmaris, a beautiful coastal area with plenty to do and see.

Packages include guided swims of varying distances and lots of advice on how to improve sea swimming techniques.
