Black box car insurance FAQs

If you have forgotten your username or password to your online account, please visit your online account. Click on the ‘Forgotten your username?’ or ‘Forgotten your password?’ link and follow the instructions to reset them. If you have not already registered visit your online account and click ‘Register’.

To monitor your black box driving score, you’ll need to download the Black Box App.

To login or register for the myRAC app, visit the myRAC page. Please note, you can only manage your insurance policy through your online account.

It’s quick and easy to register for an online account. Once you’ve completed the online registration form, you’ll be sent an account activation email. Please click on the activation link within the next 14 days, or it will expire. Once the registration process is complete, you can view and manage your policy online, anytime.

To register for an online account, you’ll need either your policy number (which you’ll find in your welcome pack) or your web reference (which you should have been given when you got your quote). If you have any problems finding these, please contact us for help.

All your policy documents will be in your online account. They will be available to view and download within an hour of purchase – this is the quickest way to access them. If you haven’t registered for your online account yet, you can register here.

If you opted to receive your documents by post, please allow up to seven working days for them to arrive.

Anyone who drives your vehicle should be named on the policy. You can add a driver to your policy using your online account. Once logged in, select ‘make a change’ on the policy overview page, then select ‘additional drivers’.

Remember, the black box tracks driving behaviour for everyone driving the car, not just you.

Our black box policies do not cover you to drive any other vehicle.

Yes. To view, print or download your documents log in to your online account and select ‘view policy or documents’. Your motor certificate and all other related documents will be saved here.

If you commute to one permanent place of work, please select 'social, domestic and pleasure, including commuting' during the quote.

Self-fit box: If we have asked you to return your self-fit device, please place it in the original packaging or a padded envelope and address the parcel to 'Freepost Trakm8’. Your parcel can be popped into any post box. ​We recycle our devices to help reduce our carbon footprint.

Pro-fit box: After the policy has ended or been cancelled, you don’t need to return the box. It can either stay in the car (as it will stop reporting) or you can remove it. An engineer can come and professionally remove the box for a fee of £45.00.

To make a claim on an optional extra you purchased, please find the relevant contact details in your policy documents, which are stored in your online account.
