What is taxi breakdown cover?
Taxi breakdown cover is a specialist breakdown cover designed for taxis or private hire vehicles that are used to carry passengers. Any taxi driver will know vehicle downtime can be costly in terms of both time and money. Specialised taxi breakdown cover can help get you, your taxi and your passengers back on the road.
Taxi vs private hire breakdown cover
Although there is a difference between taxis and private hire vehicles, with taxi breakdown cover you're covered in both. A taxi can be flagged down on the street, hired from a taxi rank, or pre-booked. They typically use metered pricing set by the local council. A private hire vehicle must be pre-booked through a licensed operator or ride-hailing app, and their fares are agreed upon in advance. An example of a private hire vehicle could be working for Uber or Bolt.

With RAC Taxi Breakdown cover, you can choose between Roadside and At Home cover only, or Roadside, Recovery and At Home. By adding Recovery you can have complete peace of mind that if we can't fix your vehicle at the roadside, we'll tow it, you and your passengers anywhere in the UK.
Taxi breakdown cover covers specific vehicles in your fleet, whether it’s your only taxi or part of a large fleet of taxis or other business vehicles we've got cover for you.
RAC have specialist cover for minibuses which includes Roadside, At Home, Recovery and Onward Travel as standard. With Roadside, Recovery and At Home cover, if we can't fix your minibus at the roadside or your registered address we'll tow you and your passengers anywhere in the UK. With Onward Travel, you're covered for a replacement vehicle while yours is being fixed.
RAC covers all taxis and private hire vehicles, including Uber!
If your taxi is covered for Roadside and At Home only, if we can't fix your vehicle at the roadside we'll take you, your vehicle and your passengers to any garage or other destination within 10 miles of your breakdown.
RAC Business Breakdown can provide cover for Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles. This includes Uber, Bolt etc. We also offer Monthly Rolling contracts as an Exclusive for RAC warranties. Get a quote today.
We do not currently include this Breakdown Extra as part of our policy.
If we need to do repairs, we'll fit parts up to £300 plus VAT. There's no need to arrange payment at the roadside, you'll be sent an invoice once repairs are complete.
Taxi Breakdown Cover from the RAC includes Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles. This can include cars used for services such as Uber or Bolt.
