Whilst other mapping and navigation systems have been highlighting speed cameras and limits for years, the new update could see the Google Maps retain its popularity for its ease of use and accessibility for all.
Drivers should never rely on Google Maps or other apps for speed camera locations and should, of course, always drive within the speed limits regardless of camera positions, but the update could help with road safety and ensure that motorists stay on the right side of the law.
Speeding is the UK’s most common driving offence, with more than 2.2 million drivers caught breaking the speed limit in 2016 alone.
If you’re caught speeding, it’s likely you’ll receive a Fixed Penalty Notice of a £100 fine and three points on your licence, unless you take part in a speed awareness course for first time offenders.
For more serious offences, you may be prosecuted in court and be hit by a significantly higher fine, more points on your licence and could even be banned from driving.
